Optimist International was founded in 1919 but it didn’t become an international organization until the chartering of the Optimist Club of Toronto, Ontario in 1924.

In their first 20 years, the Toronto Optimists sponsored 16 other Canadian clubs, and Canadian membership grew to over 1,000 by 1944. Today there are over 10,000 Optimists in Canada, including 2023-24 International President Tracey Huxley.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Optimism in Canada, this year’s International Convention will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Mission, Vision and Purpose

Optimist International will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential.

Purposes
To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.

A message from the President of Optimist International

Thank you to the entire Chilliwack community for your support and the financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia.
Without your help we could not meet the growing needs of the youth within our community.
